How it all started
It was in a pub of course, the Selden Arms in Lyndhurst Road, the event, a beer festival. Eager to try 'Real Ale' I attended, it seemed the right thing to do.

Adorning the walls were a collection of old photographs that I initially dismissed as standard pub paraphernalia. Closer inspection revealed one or two that I remembered from my youth. Realisation dawned, they were all our local pubs and mostly long gone or changed drastically.

Some home research (Google) revealed there was little to no information as to their demise, something I decided to put right. Information was gleaned from local history books, talking to folk and submissions once the website became established.

I was contacted by Colin Walton via email, in some distress! He had the idea first, but as he admits, he failed to follow through. A meeting with him in the pub that started it all proved fruitful, my passion to record it all and his excellent memory of his misspent youth frequenting the very establishments I wanted to know about. The rest is history, obviously!

The old version
An unforeseen situation arose in early 2025 where our
hosting service, Worthing-based, closed down. Combined with the original design software not being supported on Windows 11 left us a little stranded. Unable to edit or publish was a cause of concern, but with local help and advice we were able to rise from the ashes, after a steep, but not insurmountable learning curve and an opportunity to refresh ourselves we were able to return unscathed!
