Probably the first
picture of the North Star pub as a pub rather than the beer-house it
started out as. Old maps dating back to 1888 show a double length
building on the corner of a large plot of land. At this time it was surrounded by undeveloped land but it was well positioned on the coaching route between Chichester and Broadwater, ideal for passing trade. We know it was rebuilt in 1928 where it was centralised in the middle of the plot which allowed for a large front car park as we moved into the motorised world of transport. The picture on the left shows the Littlehampton road running right across the front of the original building.

We have recently been handed a
negative strip of film showing the outside of the building thought
to date to the 1970s which we will develop shortly. Like many pubs these days it leans towards a family dining experience although they do have live music, quiz nights and of course, real ale.
