March 1934: A
proposal was put to the Worthing Brewster Session on Wednesday by
Arthur Francis Huggons, Secretary of Tamplin's Brewery (Brighton)
Ltd, for the removal of the present full licence from the Castle
Hotel, Newland Road, to premises to be known as the 'Sports Ground
Hotel', Pavilion Road, Worthing.
In connection with the application, it is noted that the site of the
Sports Ground Hotel is located within a residential zone, and the
council had already refused an application for permission to erect
six shops.

The Housing and Town Planning Committee recommended that the Town
Clerk speak with the applicant, informing them that the Council
strongly opposed the application and was not prepared to agree to
the introduction of business premises in that area.
Council Stevens, reminded the session that seven councillors were
licensing justices and should be 'absolutely debarred' from taking
part as they were not entitled to take into account any
considerations of town planning. |
