Thought to date back to 1643,
it appeared to cease trading around 1650 and had been converted into
dwellings by 1678 and demolished in 1888.
Roger Davies, author of 'Tarring, a walk through its history' notes
that it was just beyond the 'Old Cottage' which is the taller
building just above the crouching boys head. It would be reasonable
to assume the terrace of cottages shown, was the later conversion to
individual dwellings mentioned above.
