This seafront bar has traded
under many names, the most popular and best remembered is that of
the Royal Stewart, although it had previously been the Blue Orchid,
Kazbah, Boots, Maggie's bar, before moving on to Checkers,
Tangerine, The Escape Bar, and now, Pier View.

Well, this was
a new one to us, Maggie's Bar.
We're not sure
when this happened other than this advert from 1994 that confirms
its existence. We found another mention in 1995.
We think that this is about
the time that No 39 Marine Parade knocked through into No 36, which
had been a restaurant previously. This is unconfirmed. |

The Kazbah in
1996 came up with the idea to heat the outside seating during the
colder winter months. They installed giant heaters, six black
Victorian-style gas heaters warm up the patio area. They emit enough
heat to cover a seven square meter area, allowing 50 people to sit
outside.
pub manager, David Westley said people had given a very positive
reaction to the equipment, "We have had cars slowing down to look at
the heaters." |

Opened on the 20th of July,
Pier View is a spin-off of the Park View in Durrington. From what we
can tell, they want to bring the same service and standard down to
this seaside bar, and if successful, will have a thriving business.
The Pier View plans to be a
cafe during the day and a pub and kitchen in the evenings. |
