Maybridge Hotel 1948

It didn't happen, but its interesting to know.

The Littlehampton Road was getting busy and plans were probably in sight for major improvements. Goring Crossways, as it was known, joined four roads together and an ideal place to build a hotel with alcoholic refreshments, the classic 'Road house' idea. It was refused.

The other two mentioned on the left were for the Durrington Arms, later the Golden Lion, and the Sussex Yeoman, clearly they saw the growing potential but had to wait until 1951 to get approval when housing started to appear around Palatine area.

A very early image of the Crossways. This view is from Titnore Lane looking down what is now Goring Street. To the left, to Broadwater, and the right, to Littlehampton.

The building which we know was on the south east corner, might have been a toll house but unsupported.

We would assume the proposed hotel would also be on the south east corner as that's where housing would develop and allow Tamplin's to cash in on local residential trade.
