Yes, it's a little odd that we
included a Guest House on the site. It was one of those places you
walk by without noticing, after all, it's just a guest house for
visitors, unless you look down and spot the illuminated BAR sign.
One subconsciously assumes it's for the patrons, but at the time it
was open to the public, and very few knew. It was like having a bar
in a very comfortable lounge.
The building can be found at 111 Marine Parade, in a terrace set
between the Travel Lodge and the Premier Inn, a gem between two
giants. |

If you had an artistic
leaning, you would have appreciated the surroundings along with
their comfort. Jane and Martyn Grubb were skilled in both.
The couple have been the owners for three years, but the bar came
into being some 19 years before. It was popular for disco types, and
the décor had a more 'Neptune' theme, fishing nets, shells, and
plastic starfish.
If you've noticed I've used
the past tense a few times it's because I don't think the bar is
open anymore. I can't be 100% sure the guest house is too. |
