The Globe - Newland Road - 1866 to 2013

Thought to have been built in 1866 initially as a plain-fronted building, it was replaced in the Queen Ann style in the 1900s.

Every ground-floor window had frosted glass with an imprinted design and lettering relative to the door it was closest to, these being, Bottle & Jug, Saloon Bar, Tap Room, along with advertising such as 'Fine Ales, wine and stouts'. We would like to think these were original to the rebuild.

The pub closed its doors for the final time on the 29th of October 2009. Fortunately we managed to capture a few internal pictures a year before.

Nailed to the bar was this plaque and soon after posting Kia came to the rescue and explained it.

"I fell Upon your site online while reminiscing about my younger self, came across the bit about The Globe and the plaque that you have no info on… I can enlighten you.

Kim Beeston was a regular in the pub, a friend of everyone. She sadly lost her battle to Breast cancer aged 42. The year she died, the regulars of the pub did a walk from Brighton to Worthing pier to pier to raise money. I just thought I’d let you know to add some more info to your site"
