Bottle & Jug - 21 Southfarm Road - May 2018

Even I remember the popular Michael's bicycle repair shop from my past. Who would have thought this odd little building at the end of a parade of shops would become Worthing's first and, I believe, only craft beer shop?

Although not a pub as such, we debated for a while as to its merits on this site but decided it was better to mention it than not. That has changed since, now you can pop in for a drink but, times and presumably numbers, are restricted.

They do hold tasting evenings.

Bottle & Jug is the old term for an Off-Licence that was part of most pubs in the day. Here you could pop in and buy a bottle or jug as a sort of early version of a takeaway.

It wasn't uncommon for residents and workers in the area to send a youngster/apprentice armed with a jug or even a bucket to be filled up for just a few copper coins. A time when things were very different.

Today's shop was opened by Tom Flint with John and Aaron from the Brookstead Alehouse across the road. They carry a wide array of canned craft beers, and apparently have four beer taps as well as wines.

They welcome anyone in to discuss your tastes in beverages, whether you're new or old.
