Bar Orange is sited in one
third what used to be the Councils 'Revenue Chambers' directly
opposite Worthing Museum. It has seen many uses over the past few
years but always seemed to err towards being a cafe of sorts.
Its rebirth as Bar Orange
(about 2020) has seen it follow the growing trend of being more of a
cafe in the day and a bar in the evenings, a popular cocktail venue
with live music, comedy events and yes, karaoke. it currently has
four beers on tap and innumerable spirits!
It also has a little
secret, there's a hidden garden out the back, small but cosy. |

The Revenue building is deceptive
in itself, being far deeper than it is wide with the open courtyard at
the rear. We're unable to determine when it was originally built but it
first saw service, as the name implies, as Her Majesties inspector of
Taxes, divided up between filing, PAYE, post war Tax Credits and
Schedule D and offices for the Tax Inspectors. Thanks to Paul Burtenshaw
who used to work there. |
